Woodie Moore > Our first stop was Ketchikan. We are departing the boat for a day of fun and sightseeing. Here we traveled to the rain forest and went hiking.
Woodie Moore > We sailed on the Holland America Ryndam.
Woodie Moore > Our guide pointed out recent bear activity on our trail. One had been there just a few hours before and did what bears do in the woods.
Woodie Moore > This was our first sighting of an eagle. A few minutes later we saw dozens around a stream.
Woodie Moore > The natives have added some thrills for tourists. This zip line took the brave over the top of the rain forest about 10 miles from Ketchikan.
Woodie Moore > There were lots of Salmon in every stream we saw. July is the time to see Alaska because of the Salmon runs. That brings the bears and eagles and lots of other animals.
Woodie Moore > Bald eagles were numerous. There must have been 20-30 at this one location where the salmon were running up the stream.
Woodie Moore > Eagles tend to be pretty territorial so we saw lots of fights break out over the best spot to watch for salmon.
Woodie Moore > There is little farming of any type in Alaska, but natives are now raising reindeer for food and other products.
